LUCKY BUNS NOW OPEN AT REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 16, 2024 – Local favorite burger brand Lucky Buns is now open at DCA. Established non-traditional food and beverage operator, The Grove, Inc. (TGI), opened the new restaurant in partnership with ACDBE partner M2 Concepts, LLC. To celebrate its newest opening, TGI held a Grand Opening event on Thursday, May 9.

“The Grove, Inc is thrilled to bring local favorite Lucky Buns to DCA, where we’ve been proud operators for over 15 years,” said TGI CEO Nina Madonia. “Lucky Buns is the perfect addition to our portfolio, offering a full-service experience with an all-day menu and craft-cocktail program. The secret is out – now travelers from everywhere can experience what locals know and love!”

What began as a burger pop up at Chef Alex McCoy’s Thai concept, Alfie’s, led to the first standalone Lucky Buns location in DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood in 2017. Now boasting additional locations at Union Market and the Wharf, Lucky Buns has become one of DC’s most sought-after burgers. The brand’s goal is simple: Make great food using the best house-made products and local, sustainable ingredients that pull people outside of their comfort zone while reinvigorating classic and nostalgic flavors.

While burgers are an American staple, they’re loved around the world. Lucky Buns’ menu is influenced by cuisine from Australia, Southeast Asia, South America, and the UK. DC Chef Alex McCoy of Food Network was inspired by the flavors and laid-back vibe of the southern Thai beach bars he frequented over 10 years of traveling between the US and Asia. In addition to signature burgers, the Lucky Buns menu features crispy chicken sandwiches, salads, wings, unique cocktails, local craft beers, and all-around bold flavors.

“Though our influence has been defined by regions around the world, our roots and much of our inspiration comes from this city we have always called home,” McCoy said. “It is our honor to be able to be the first taste of DC for a first-time visitor, or a comforting taste goodbye to a DMV local. Regardless of where you are heading, or where you came from, you can always find a welcome seat and a great meal at Lucky Buns.”

The grand opening event was attended by members of concessions management company Fraport Washington Partnership LLC, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), Chef Alex McCoy, and local artist Aneikan Udofia who created a one-of-a-kind mural for the DCA Lucky Buns location.

“Lucky Buns is a local favorite and perfect fit with the fabulous dining options at Reagan National Airport,” said Jaimini Erskine, Vice President for Marketing and Concessions at MWAA. “Built in the old security checkpoints at the intersection of National Hall and Concourse B, Lucky Buns is in a prime location for customers to enjoy one of Chef Alex McCoy’s flavorful burgers along with airfield views. Our travelers will also experience the vibrant custom mural by talented local artist Aniekan Udofia, whose design truly captures the spirit of the DC region.”

Alyson Murphy, Vice President of Operations for Fraport Washington commented, “Launching a new concession isn’t just about opening doors; it’s about unlocking journeys and making every layover a moment of discovery and delight. Fraport Washington is looking forward to partnering with The Grove, Inc. and M2 Concepts, LLC on their Lucky Buns journey at DCA.”
